Description

Little India is a buzzing historic area with a rich cultural history dating back to 1915. There are several exciting Landmarks in Little India.

The Tekka Market (also, known as the KK Market) was built in 1915.  When you step into the most vibrant and colorful that is also one of the few disappearing surviving “wet” markets, you can hear a hum of voices in various languages (English, Teochew, Cantonese, Hokkien, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil) and to much surprises, buyers and sellers understand each other and deals were done.
Built by India pioneers in 1855, the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple‘s architecture reflects on the South Indian Tamil temples is one of the oldest place of worship in Singapore.  This is what some visitors, certainly, classified this a must-see temple.
What you notice about Singapores’ diversity of social and ethnic society, you would find Angullia Mosque, located along Serangoon Road was constructed by Angullia family in 1890.
Join our experienced guide on the tour. You’ll start at Bukit Timah, the tree- lined outskirts of the Central Business District. Discover at once the heartlands with its distinctive cacophony of sounds and multitude of colours and smells. Then let your Tourist Guide show you the varied curries cooked in different styles by the local ethnic groups: Chinese, Malay, and Southern Indian. There’s no better place to do this than in the local wet market. Observe the rites in a Hindu temple and the fascinating stories behind the favourite festivals celebrated here. Learn about the various traditional costumes and you may be inspired to learn how to wear a sari. Nothing beats the heat better than to down a refreshing yoghurt drink called lassi. Other choices include teh tarik – or “pulled tea” and masala tea, tea boiled with spices. This is also a good place to ask your guide about the intricate architectural features and symbols found in the conserved shophouses located here. Meeting Place: Little India MRT Station (NE7 / DT12) - Entrance/Exit E on Race Course Road. Guide will wear orange polo teeshirt displaying “Page A Guide” signage. Days available: Tuesdays & Fridays Time: 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Please book 48 hours in advance.
